Marijuana Concentrates 101

The world of marijuana concentrates can be known as confusing. How do you know which is right for you with so many types and brands? Marijuana concentrates are typically known as “dabs”, “wax”, “shatter” or just “oil”.They consist of the resin glands extracted from the marijuana plant using solvents like butane (the same solvent used in lighter fluid). There are two main methods for extraction: mechanical and solvent-based.

Mechanical extraction uses machines that press the glands into a solid form, similar to how olive oil is made. Solvent-based extraction relies on butane, carbon dioxide, or propane to strip the resin from the plant material and then distill it into a solid form. The results of these processes can lead to vastly different products. Solvent-based concentrates often have a higher THC content than their mechanical counterparts because they don’t burn away as much of the plant material’s cannabinoids during extraction.

So how do these concentrates work?

When heating the concentrate to the proper temperature (depending on the type of concentrate), it will produce an odorless vapor that can be inhaled to provide an instant psychoactive effect. Depending on the type of concentrate used, this effect may last for 30 minutes up to several hours after it’s been consumed, making them particularly beneficial for patients who need chronic pain relief throughout the day.

You’re probably wondering what the difference between concentrates and other cannabis consumption methods is. Concentrates tend to be more potent, and they provide different (and many would say more enjoyable) experiences than the traditional method of smoking or vaporizing cannabis.

For one thing, concentrates can be consumed in various ways, from dabbing (which involves heating a small amount of concentrate on a hot surface) to vaping (which involves heating the oil inside of an actual vaporizer). This versatility makes them especially appealing to consumers who prefer not to smoke or eat their cannabis products. In addition, extracts are usually much stronger than dried flowers, giving consumers the ability to enjoy high-quality cannabis without consuming as much product as they otherwise would using a traditional consumption method.

Types of solvent-based concentrate in cannabis

Solvent-based cannabis concentrates are the most potent and require the most work to produce. These consistencies are usually oil-like or oily in texture and appearance, and sometimes amber/yellow or deep green in color.

If you’ve never had CO2 oil before, you’re in for a treat. It’s not only generated by the same process as normal oil, but it also has many benefits of normal oil that make it extra special.

What is CO2 oil?

Liquid concentrates are thick and oily and often solid at room temperature. They’re commonly known as CO2 oil, and they contain molecules that are incredibly beneficial to your skin. These molecules are known as cannabinoids; they’re full of antioxidant properties and can help soothe the skin and reduce the appearance of acne scars, acne, stretch marks, and sun damage.
